Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Candax Energy Inc. ("Candax") is pleased to announce that John Zaozirny has agreed to join the Board of Directors and Christopher Hopkins has been appointed Chief Financial Officer.
John Zaozirny is Counsel to the law firm McCarthy T?trault, Vice Chairman of Canaccord Capital Corporation, a Governor of the Business Council of British Columbia and Honourary Consul to the Republic of Tunisia for Alberta. Mr. Zaozirny was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1979 and served as Alberta's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources from 1982 to 1986. He is perhaps best known for his role as Alberta's Energy Minister in negotiating the end of the National Energy Program. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary, his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia and his Masters of Laws degree at the University of London's London School of Economics and Political Science. After being admitted to the Law Societies of both Alberta and British Columbia, Mr. Zaozirny was designated a Queen's Counsel in Alberta in 1984. Mr. Zaozirny is a director of a number of public and private companies, including Canadian Oil Sands Limited, IPSCO Inc., Fording Canadian Coal Trust, Pengrowth Corporation, Provident Energy Ltd. and TerraVest Income Fund.
Chris Hopkins has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Hopkins has 18 years of experience in financial management, strategic planning, M&A, corporate finance and financial and management reporting. The majority of his career has been spent in senior positions with publicly-listed companies, including Suncor Inc, CIBC and Rio Algom Limited. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, his Chartered Accountant designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and his Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University where he was awarded a gold medal for academic achievement.
The Company is also announcing that Glenn Rochon, a co-founder is stepping down from the board of Candax. Mr. Rochon will continue his contribution to Candax as a consultant to the Company with regard to Middle East opportunities. With the appointment of Chris Hopkins, James Fairbairn has tendered his resignation as Chief Financial Officer. The Board of Directors thanks Mr. Rochon for his contributions to the Board, and Mr. Fairbairn for acting as interim Chief Financial Officer during Candax's start-up phase.
